Como Museum
Things to see
Sword from Prato Pagano (Pagan Green)
The sword from Prato Pagano (near Como) displayed at Como Archeological Museum P. Giovio is particulary interesting [It is not in the pictures, it is wonderful, a sort of Excalibur of Bronze Age].
It was found intact in a marsh, unlike most other weapons that were broken in seven parts (magic number) before being buried in the tomb.
The sword has a handle decorated with concentric circles and a curved pattern on the hilt, belived to be a symbol of the "sun ship". It is likely that the sword served a religiuous purpose and was throwed into the lake as part of a relious ritual: the Celts had a strong attachment to natural elements, particulary to water.
Cart from Ca’ Morta (Dead House)
Il is well worth looking out for the reconstruction of the fascinating funeral cart in the Como Museum (in the picture)
The cart was found in a particulary rich burial site that came to light at Luzzago (Como). The four wheeled cart has a plattform decorated with wrought bronze., used to transport the body to the cremation fire. The unburnt parts of the cart were placed in the tomb.
