Insieme a Stone Roses e Happy Mondays, i Charlatans sono stati una delle band più significative del "Manchester Sound".
Dal 1990 al 1997, anno in cui pubblicarono il loro ultimo album sotto l'etichetta "Tellin' Stories", i Charlatans realizzarono alcune b-sides ora raccolte in "Songs from the other stories".
Da segnalare il remix di "Nine Acre Dust", firmato da Chemical Brothers.
